So sad, MMA fighter dies after being knocked out in weekend fight
A mixed martial arts fighter from Sutton Massachusetts, Rondel Clark,
26, who suffered a technical knockout in a match in Massachusetts on
Saturday, has died.
The Plymouth County district attorney's office says Clark died Tuesday at a Boston hospital.
Clark competed as part of the Cage Titans XXXV showcase on Saturday
at Plymouth Memorial Hall. The match was stopped about two minutes into
the third round and was ruled a TKO.
According to a person who observed Clark's match, Clark had been
dominant in the fight, but then there was a sudden, noticeable change in
his demeanor. The witness said they did not see Clark take any
substantial hits prior to that change in his bearing.
After the fight, the DA said Clark was taken to Beth Israel Deaconess
Hospital in Plymouth and then transferred to Beth Israel Deaconess
Medical Center in Boston.
The state medical examiner's office will determine the cause and manner of Clark's death.
State police, local police and the Massachusetts State Athletic Commission are investigating his death.
