Tim Sherwood sacked by Aston Villa

Villa have parted company with Sherwood just 10 games into the campaign with the club winless since the opening day of the season and four points adrift of safety

Aston Villa football club  have announced the sacking of manager Tim Sherwood with the club sitting second bottom of the Premier League.

Villa have endured a poor start to the campaign, having lost eight of their 10 league matches, after recording one point from the previous nine games.

After maintaining the club's standing in the top-flight last season and leading the Midlands side to their first FA Cup final appearance in 15 years, Sherwood spent over £50million in transfer fees over the summer.

However, with the club in 19th place and four points from safety, the Villa board have moved quickly to part company with Sherwood.

'Aston Villa Football Club has parted company with manager Tim Sherwood today,' an offical club statement read.

'The Board has monitored the performances closely all season and believes the results on the pitch were simply not good enough and that a change is imperative.

'However, the Club would like to place on record its sincere thanks to Tim for all his efforts during a difficult period last season and for the many positive contributions he has made to the entire football setup during his time with the Club. We wish him well in the future.'

Kevin MacDonald has been named as interim boss, with Villa's search for a new manager already underway.
